Authoritative Parenting

According to the Process of Parenting by Jane Brooks authoritative parenting is:

“Authoritative parents exercised firm control over the child’s behaviour but also emphasized independence and individuality in the child.”(Brooks, 2013, 101)

Authoritative parents are “rational, flexible, and attentive” (Brooks, 2013, 101) in meeting the needs of their children.

Here is an article on the approach titled, “The authoritative parenting style: warmth, rationality, and high standards.”¬†
